When Jakodan was first established in 2002, the intention was to sell 'something' that people would use often without any need for our own manufacturing facilities. The idea for the company's startup came from Jakob Schmidt and his father. A year later, Jakob's wife Nina joined the firm - And to this day, Nina and Jakob are the sole owners of Jakodan A/S.

In order to figure out what that special "something" they wanted to sell was, Jakob and his father went to fairs all over Europe. At one of these fairs, they made contact with the factory that to this day still manufacture our bubble mailers. A small warehouse was leased, a big batch of bubble mailers was bought, and then the founders begun their travels through Denmark to sell their goods. It quickly turned out to be a very slow process with little gain, and so they decided to sell their products online. That turned out to be a great decision!
A special combination
When a price list was posted on the website, customer inquiries started to pour in. At this time, the website was broadened to include a web store. The demand from customers increased - also for packaging goods that our small company did not yet offer. Therefore, the product range was expanded to include articles such as book mailers and cardboard boxes, and business grew steadily. Today, Jakodan sells everything you may need for shipping parcels or wrapping gifts.
"The possibility of purchasing all of your packaging needs at the same company is what sets us apart from our competitors, as they often only offer a small range of products", owner Nina Jørgensen explains.
Eye for small businesses
At many large manufacturers, it is often the case that if you are only in need of a small bundle of cardboard boxes, fees and shipping costs alone may attribute to a 3-4 times price increase. Therefore, it is very important to us that Jakodan is able to offer smaller quantities at a price point that even very small businesses can afford.
?"When we started our own journey, we often experienced that it was difficult to get in with the big corporations. Therefore, it is extremely important to us that we can offer smaller quantities at a price point that even small businesses can afford. The small start-ups that are our customers also become big firms some day."

User-friendly website
Jakodan's website makes it easy to order free packaging samples and thus, provide you with an opportunity to see and feel the quality of a product before ordering. This way, you are always sure to choose the right sizes and colours from the start.
"The free samples give our customers security, and for Jakodan it means that we very rarely receive returned good," explains Nina Jørgensen.
The webshop is also made to be easily manageable and user-friendly. I.e. when clicking on the 'gift paper category', you can search for a certain colour, paper quality or design. When looking in the category 'packaging', you are able to search for a cardboard box size and other filters.
If you want to read more about an item, you are able to read in-depth information by clicking on a product. You can also find our suggestions on related items. This is very a very helpful tool, for example if you are looking at gift wrap and are having a difficult time finding matching ribbon.
Simply
Even though we have come far from the small, rented warehouse ten years ago, Jakodan has throughout the years strongly adhered to our core values of great customer service, focus on customer needs and quality.
And how did we come up with our company name? It's quite simple! Jakodan = Jakob and Danmark (the Danish spelling of Denmark).
